How To Have Great Hair♥

Happiness is a form of courage...

Before I talk to you about how to have great hair, this weekend was bittersweet for me. Most of my friends graduated from Saint Leo. Congratulations to Mike Gincel, Peggy Williams, Nichelle Young, Leslie Pevey, and Sarah Eade. My friend Sarah Grina will be graduating this Saturday from USF. This past Saturday I attended Peggy's graduation party.

How To Have Great Hair by Chelsea DeVries
1. Wash hair every other day.
When you wash your hair every day, you strip it of natural oils. Hair needs oil to maintain shine and body in order to style it.

2. When thinking of products, think variety.
Just like when working out doing the same workout over and over produces no results, using the same shampoo and conditioner to wash your hair causes immunity to the good things in each shampoo and conditioner, as well as product buildup. Every time I wash my hair, I use a different set of shampoo and conditioner.

3. Color your hair only when needed.
So many young girls nowadays dye their hair because it's the trend. Once you dye your hair, you will always have to dye your hair. There is no in between. So instead of exposing your underdeveloped brain to chemicals, stick with your natural hair color until after your 25 at least.

4. Use natural hair color tools instead of dying your hair.
Since I was 19, I've used Sun-In on my hair and that's the only reason it stays golden blond. Technically, I've never dyed my hair. I've put purple temporary dye in it but it's nothing compared to dying my hair, and my hair has thanked me because of it.

5. Use frizz serums and shine spray to bring out the natural oils in your hair.
I personally use Tresemme Shine Spray and Tresemme Keratin Smooth Frizz Serum but everyone has their preference. These have worked for me the best.

6. Comb your hair after you wash it instead of brushing it.
When hair is wet and you brush it, it strips the ends of your hair faster.

7. Use heat tools every other day.
If I blow dry my hair, I skip straightening it for the day. I used to straighten my hair and noticed it was drier.

8. Let your hair air dry after washing it and when damp, then blow dry it.
This is healthier for your hair because it doesn't dry out the moisture that the hair received when you washed it.

That's all I can think of. If you have a hair specific question, post it in the comments. I'll try to answer it for you. Before I leave you with a final thought, I'm going to review each of my shampoos and conditioners.

Garnier Fructis Hydra Recharge

I was skeptical when I saw the commercials and magazine ads for this product because I didn't believe it would work but it really makes my hair moisture-rich soft and it lasts about three days. I highly recommend this also because it makes your hair smell really good, too.

Garnier Fructis Fall Fight
When I first became hypothyroid, my hair started falling out terribly. Yet, I started using this to build strength to my hair and it worked. It didn't completely make my hair stop falling out but it caused less to fall out. Thank God my hair no longer falls out.

Head And Shoulders Dry Scalp Care with Almond Oil Shampoo
After I started using this shampoo, my hair was really soft and not frizzy after I washed it. I pair this with Suave Naturals Conditioner (Rainforest Fresh). Together these cause my hair to both smell great and be super soft and almost frizz free. This is probably my favorite set.

Johnson's Baby Shampoo and Tresemme Moisture Rich Conditioner

When I had that skin irritation on my legs and read that you could use baby shampoo as shaving cream, I also read that baby shampoo is great for hair that is really greasy and gets rid of the excess grease. Tresemme Moisture Rich Conditioner makes my hair super soft and conditioned well.

Suave Clarifying Shampoo and Tresemme Breakage Defense

Clarifying shampoo makes your color stronger and removes any product buildup in your hair. This Tresemme conditioner helps strengthen breaking hair. I can always trust that Tresemme conditioner will make my hair silky smooth and smell healthy.

Head and Shoulders and Tresemme Split Remedy Conditioner

Like just about most people, I occasionally get dandruff so I use head and shoulders to treat it and prevent it. This conditioner protects and strengths split ends which means less haircuts.

 Tresemme Color Protection
I discovered this duo when Isemi- dyed my hair two summers ago and added the purple low-lights. It really helped protect against the vibrancy of the purple color. I believe it was only supposed to last two months and the purple lasted three months.

Tresemme Smooth and Silky

This duo always is my go-to shampoo and conditioner if I want to have smooth and silky hair.

Tresemme Climate Control
This duo is supposed to protect against frizz in any weather but for some reason, it always causes my hair to feel itchy and heavy after I use it. And my hair is frizzy even after I wash it.

Tresemme Keratin Smooth
This is probably my second favorite duo because although it doesn't completely rid your hair of frizz, it made my hair super duper soft and it smells beautiful. Used with the serum it works even better. I highly recommend buying this.

I am hoping to try Tresemme Platinum Strength next and I will let you know how it goes after I use it.

What I Plan To Accomplish This Summer(And What I Don't)♥

Happiness is a form of courage... Before I begin telling you what I plan to do this summer, I just want to say thanks to everyone who made this semester a blessed one, and to the friends I am going to lose because I no longer need you in my life.

Also before beginning anything else, I want to write a blurb about my very best friend Geniveve. Today (4/22) is her 13th bday. Please feel free to wish her a happy one on her Facebook or Twitter.

Enjoy some pictures from of Geniveve through the year:

This past Saturday, we celebrated Geniveve's bday. I bought Geniveve a dog birthday cake that she shared with Hazel and Katrina. As her gifts, I got Geni peanut butter cookies and Mom got her pupcorn. I also made sure Katrina and Hazel didn't feel left out and got them cookies as well.

Here's some pictures from the party:
 The beautiful birthday girl♥
Then each dog got a picture with Geni:

All three dogs finally sat for a picture together with Jayde♥

My best friend and I♥

 Me and my sisters♥

Things I plan to do this summer, and those I don't:
1. Overdose on Pepto-bismal and Tums.  Instead, I plan to watch Ellen every day this summer. (I already missed it today). Ellen Degenerees although openly gay is one of the funniest people to ever live and is truly a joy to be around and watch simply because she lives with a kind and generous heart shown through her show's slogan: Laugh, Dance, Smile.♥

2.Overdose on Motion Sickness pills  Instead, I plan to read forty new books. Currently I'm reading What The Bible Says About Love, Marriage, and Sex by David Jeremiah. Overall, I'm really enjoying it because you can never know enough about those three subjects. Next I plan to read Lauren Conrad's Fame Game.

3. Not get anything accomplished Instead, I plan to work all seventeen weeks on my narrative nonfiction novel, One Last Breath. So far, it is coming along great. I'm really learning a lot and I can tell my writing has matured greatly.

4. Shut everyone out  Instead, I plan to blog more on every day topics. For example, I plan to do a blog all about having great hair. Stay tuned for that.♥

5. Be depressed because of what I don't have Instead I plan to be more thankful just to be alive, concentrate on Jesus, and operate in His grace.

Overall, I feel like this summer will be my best yet because I plan to be the best me I can be this summer. Get back to learning to cook and bake, relearn spanish, and write and read until my heart bursts at the seams♥

Before I leave you with a final thought, I want to congratulate Nyjah Houston, Sean Malto, and Torey Pudwill for being the Top 3 winners of the Street League X-Games Brazil♥

Until next time, The men who succeed are the efficient few. They are the few who have the ambition and will power to develop themselves.-Robert Burton♥

Forget Woodstock; It's all about Bullstock♥

Happiness is a form of courage...For those of you who don't know what Woodstock was, let me explain it for you in simple terms. Woodstock was a 3 day music festival in 1969 that promoted peace and music. It was an outdoor music festival where people could just enjoy the music and each other.

Much the same way,USF Bullstock was an imitation of that. For those that do not know what Bullstock is, it is similar to Saint Leo's Spring Fling but with bands people actually have heard of and a ton more people. Just like Spring Fling, Bullstock takes place out in a wide open grassy field with two stages for concerts, a rock wall, bungee jumping, free food, etc. Yet, unlike Spring Fling, one of my favorite bands was going to be there: Hot Chelle Rae, along with popular bands like Owl City and All-American Rejects.

I had been waiting a year to see Hot Chelle Rae in concert and promptly at 7:30p.m. on April 12, 2013 they took the stage, and my breath away. My breath came back of course because I screamed my lungs out during the entire show. Hot Chelle Rae is made up of four members: Ryan Follese (lead singer/guitar), Jamie Follese (drums), Ian Keaggy (bassist/background vocals), and Nash Overstreet (guitar/ background vocals). They write all their own songs which are all ah-mazing. Excuse me, for fangirling.♥

Overall, their set was ah-mazing. They played good song after good song. I had such a good time. Even the beer I sipped before the show couldn't give me the high I was feeling during the entire show. I'm so excited for their new album and really want to get their band tee and some band merch.

After standing for exactly three hours in the same spot, we were all tired and decided to leave. (Plus, most of us had to pee).
Yet, before the show we all looked super cute.

On Saturday, I chose to rest the whole day. This was my day yesterday♥

Before I got all beach beauty worthy, I had a photoshoot with my dogs.
Katrina is such a little beauty.

 My mom; my hero♥

 Geniveve; my best friend♥

 Hazel and Katrina; two buddies♥

 Aren't they cute?♥

 Katrina's selfie♥

 My mom with the girls♥

 Beach beauty♥

Overall it was an extremely blessed weekend. This Wednesday I move back home for the summer. Not looking forward to moving everything back but excited to have a productive summer of writing♥
